Building owner/ management are to notify dispatch at 905-!!!-!!!!

    (A) When the fire alarm/sprinkler system is out of service and

Whenever a fire alarm/sprinkler system is out of service, a fire watch will be required.

Fire Watch Procedures to be followed:

    1. Notices must be posted at all exits and the main entrance, indicating the sprinkler system is not In Service.
    2. Staff or other reliable person(s) must patrol the building at least once every hour when the building is occupied. (It may be every 2 hours when the building is not occupied)
    3. Access to a phone must be available to notify emergency services.
    4. Flashlight, clipboard, pen and whistle will be carried by the person assigned to fire watch.
    5. Copy of the fire watch duties is to be carried by the fire watch person.

    8. Upon discovery of a fire condition, the fire watch person shall immediately notify the Fire Department (9-1-1) as to the location and nature of any fire discovered.
    9. Close any doors and /or windows, in an attempt to contain the fire
    10. Persons conducting the patrol will shout, and use a whistle to alert occupants of an emergency advising everyone to evacuate the building.
    11. Notification must begin with those persons closest to the fire and then proceed outward to the remainder of the building.
    12. Once all occupants are notified, the person on fire watch duties should assist with the evacuation of the building.
    13. Once the building has been evacuated, no one is allowed back in until Fire Department personnel have investigated and given the all clear to re enter.

If anyone has any questions relating to Fire Watch duties they may contact Fire Prevention !!!!! Fire & Emergency Services at 905-!!!-!!!!.

    1. Fire Prevention Officers use issued note books. Once the book is full, it is numbered and placed in the departments safe for future reference.
    2. We do not have note pads with department logo.
    3. We have note books assigned to each file property, so for a fire investigation we will use the assigned file note book, if there isn’t a book in the file, we start a brand new book for the file and the book is used for the fire investigation. This book will remain with the file.
    4. The Fire Prevention Officer will photo copy their notes and place them in the property file.
    5. The notes are not scanned.
I have provided our department with in-service training on note taking. Each firefighter has been assigned a note book, the PC and Captains duties are to ensure the note books are kept current.
