I have been asked in general, if a building is required to be sprinkler protected is there a provision to protect an “Information Technology Equipment Room” (small server or communications room) with a clean agent suppression system in lieu of sprinklers for that room only?

After researching NFPA 13, 2001 and 75 it appears that the sprinkler protection must remain, however the redundancy seems odd to me.

If anyone could shed a little light on something I may be missing I would be most appreciative.
