The Ontario Municipal Fire Prevention Officers Association is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Jana Gillis (née Patterson), a long‑serving fire prevention professional, educator, and former OMFPOA Provincial President.
Jana dedicated more than four decades to the fire service. She began her career in St. Catharines before spending several years with the Office of the Fire Marshal, where she played an important role in Fire Code education and training across Ontario. She later continued her service in Grimsby as Chief Fire Prevention Officer contributing her knowledge, professionalism, and commitment to community safety.
Jana was a proud and active member of the OMFPOA, serving in multiple roles, including Provincial President from 2002 to 2004. Her leadership helped strengthen the association and advance fire prevention practices throughout the province. Her impact is still felt today by those who had the privilege of working with her.
