October 11, 2022 at 11:06 am in reply to: Issues with False Smoke Alarm Activiations in new construction #14711Doug KellamParticipant
We are seeing this issue in Brant with the P4010ACLEDSCA-2 having activations with no apparent cause. All are in new builds.
I am gathering the info, but at this stage, it’s a sizeable nuisance for our paid-on-call crews. Have yet to hear about any recalls for these units.Doug KellamParticipantFire Marshals Public Fire Safety Council https://www.firesafetycouncil.com/
Doug KellamParticipantHI Matt:
Brant has nothing in place to deal with this outside of our open air burn bylaw. It would however, likely devolve into a more political issue, that I would likely stay away from.
Doug KellamParticipantHi Brian:
The County of Brant has a bylaw for fireworks. It can be found at http://www.brant.ca/fireworks , along with the answers to your questions.
1. Do you have a consumer fireworks by-law?
Yes
2. What are the sales restrictions within the by-law (days permitted/amounts displayed/etc.)?1 week on either side of Victorian Day, and Canada day for sales and discharge
3. What days are firework discharge permitted?same as sales
4. What are the charges and fines for by-law contravention?I’d have to check with bylaw.
5. Who handles the enforcement of all parts of the by-law (sales/permits/discharging/etc.)?Fire handles sales, and bylaw/OPP handle enforcement.
Doug KellamParticipantNo. Not at this time. But classroom doors are being discussed.

Doug KellamParticipantSpeaking only for myself, I would gauge the mood of the municipality to be one of accommodation for the needs of business right now. Providing that there has been no prior history of code violations or the like, I would carry forward from the new July date, provided this situation doesn’t present again.

Doug KellamParticipantIn Brant, by-law officers enforce the fire route. However, in order for them to enforce it on private property, they want the properties identified on our parking bylaw. Mostly we have designated vulnerable occupancies, schools, and a few other places where it may become an issues because of traffic etc. This just came up in our office recently too…
Doug KellamParticipantHi Mike:
The Fire College used to have a sprinkler demonstration trailer. Don’t know if they still do. But that might be a start.
