ParticipantWondering if any departments out there have started or discussed starting virtual/remote inspections. If so, what type of devices/software you are using. Any feedback would be appreciated.

ParticipantNFPA is working on a new Standard for these if you weren’t aware. It’s still in draft form but I think you might be able to see it for comment. It’s #915.
With my Chief’s support, I offered it to my 4 small group homes last fall as I’m very familiar with their buildings and they are very good on their maintenance. They declined and were more comfortable with me being on site.
Aside from the VOs, at this time we only manage to just keep up with complaint and request (no routine inspections). Considering these are always buildings we have either never been in or it’s been a long time, I personally wouldn’t be comfortable doing remote on an unfamiliar building.

ParticipantHi Matt, In Merrickville last month we did two fire drills virtually using Zoom both went really well. The facilities used a portable nurses station and a laptop. Â We were able to observe the wing that was used for the fire drill. I may use the same process for the inspections.

ParticipantHi Matt, in Burlington we chose to conduct non-sprinklered facility inspections (for VO’s) in person and the remainder via FaceTime or other software. As with many that we’ve heard from the problems arise generally due to heavy use of block in construction and so patience is much needed.
Available if you should want to discuss.
