Hi Howie,

In Richmond Hill we have no prevention staff on call. They used to call any of the 4 people on the Fire Investigation Unit to see who was available. There was no compensation for being on call other then overtime if called in, but there was no expectation to report if you were unavailable. That system didn’t work.  We proposed having an on-call list that would cover 24/7/365, and the person on call would be compensated with one hour of overtime for every day on call. This proposal was refused by management. Now if it is determined that the FIU are required on a scene during non work hours 0700-1730 Monday to Friday ,the scene will have to be held until an FIU member reports during working hours.
