Hey Vince,

In Hamilton we have 16 Inspectors, 6 Fire Safety Officers (captains), ACFPO and CFPO. To act as a captain you need 5 years on the job (2 years at first class). To act as ACFPO or CFPO you need 2 years as a captain, though you can’t sign off on items that require CFPO designation when acting. Every 4 years there is a written exam for qualified inspectors and captains to act until they get promoted full time, for all divisions of the FD. The pool of actors is rotated through as acting time comes up.
