We dealt with a group home here in a similar situation and have another one on the go right now. Both are B occupancies. The one requested to put a lock on the bedroom door and advised us that staff would unlock the door in the event of an emergency. We didn’t allow it. We did take the time to educate the building owner on the potential risks. Maglocks were eventually installed in the building. A building permit was obtained for this installation. They were required to met OBC requirements which, required a fire alarm system and emergency lighting to be installed. The fire safety plan was also updated to reflect the change.
